Growing up in Boston where the American Revolution had it's first stirrings, and the city still holds so many remnants of the patriots, I've always had a fascination for Colonial American history. I would later major in American history, and though I agree with those who criticize The Patriot for historical inaccuracy, I applaud this Oscar-nominated movie for weaving a tale which has helped to focus interest on this period of history and all it represents; the birth of democracy and the bravery of those simple men and women who surmounted staggering odds in their fight for personal freedom.

Unfortunately the Revolution is too often overlooked, especially in the cinema, and for this film helping to fill the void as well as it's many virtues in solid acting, costuming, cinematography, and the superb musical compositions of John Williams, it has become one of my favorite movies.
